Tut Four: Video Production Sessions

As a requirement of our Participation of Occupation course we were to think up and produce a short film of 1 minute long. The film had to be based around one of the four concepts introduced in our first tutorial. These four concepts were occupational justice, occupational disruption, occupational transition and occupational deprivation. Our group chose occupational transition which is based around how and when an individual experience a change in their occupation. These changes may occur due to life stages and choices. An example is as we grow up we make many transitions from primary school into retirement. There are many transitions that happen between which occur naturally as we mature therefore these transitions happen involuntary. Transitions that happen voluntary could be going from employment into parenthood or from working into retirement. we as group used the a story board and scripting aid to help us/aided us in completing the video.

Scripting: scripting is a way by which the thought and ideas of an author are transmitted to the audience. using scripts when planning a visual production, not just words are but the basis for everything that is both seen and heard and seen on the screen. This allowed us to identify the aim of the film and how the film would go. we did this by first deciding on a topic that was relevant to overcoming adversity. we came up with the concept of going through a push/pull door and reading the sign to overcome the problem of not being able to get through the door. we were able to write down the key concepts of the video and this provided us with a template to follow once we began shooting.

Story Board: Story board is a series of illustrations displayed in sequence for the purpose of visualizing what the film will be. it helped us see what the different camera shots would look like and ensure that that it is well constructed and how they all looked one after the other. it also meant that when it came to filming everyone knew what to do, so no one was confused.
